How to Remove Orange Juice Stains from Carpets

There are multiple ways you can clean an orange juice stain off a carpet. And in most cases, you don’t need to use expensive tools or heavy-duty cleaning solutions to clean the juice away, if you act quickly.

However, for older and tougher stains you may need to invest in some stronger cleaning products.

Removing Orange Juice Stains with Household Cleaning Products

What you need:

• Paper towels/cloths
• Bowl
• Teaspoon
• Washing up liquid
• Cup
• Warm water
• Cold water
• White vinegar (optional)

Steps to follow:

1. Once the orange juice hits the carpet, go and get some paper towels or white cloths immediately.
2. Use the cloths/paper towels to soak up all the orange juice from the carpet. This process may take you a few minutes depending on how much juice was tipped over the carpet.
3. Press down on the cloth/paper towels with your hands to absorb as much liquid as possible.
4. You can stop soaking up the liquid when the carpet feels dry to the touch.
5. In a bowl mix two teaspoons of washing-up liquid with two cups of warm water.
6. Stir the mixture.
7. Go to a discreet patch of carpet.
8. Dip a clean, white cloth into the water, and start dabbing the cloth onto the carpet.
9. Wait to see what happens. If the carpet doesn’t react with the mixture, you can use it to clean the orange juice stain away. Stop using the mixture if the carpet reacts badly and starts to lose its colour.
10. Go back to the orange juice stain and dip the cloth into the soapy water.
11. Wring the cloth out – you should never use an oversaturated cloth to clean a carpet, damp cloths only.
12. Blot at the stain with the soapy cloth to remove the juice – work from the outside of the stain towards its centre (stops the stain from spreading further).
13. Then use a clean, damp cloth to blot at the treated area.
14. Repeat Steps 12 and 13 until the orange juice mark has been removed from the carpet.
15. When you’re about to finish, use a fresh, damp cloth to soak up any soapy residue from the carpet.
16. Grab a dry, clean cloth and use it to absorb all the moisture from the carpet.
17. Repeat this process until the carpet feels almost dry to the touch.
18. Leave the carpet to air dry naturally – do not walk over the carpet and leave plenty of windows and doors open, so lots of fresh air can get into the room.
19. When the carpet is dry you can hoover it, so it gets its fluffy texture back.

Tip: As an extra step, you could treat your carpet with white vinegar. Simply soak up as much orange juice as you can, then dab some white vinegar onto a clean, white cloth and blot the stain with the cloth.

You can then clean the carpet further by using washing up liquid and cold water. The washing-up liquid should mask the smell of the vinegar.

To clean an old orange juice stain off a carpet you’ll need to use some tougher cleaning chemicals.

For example, you could use a professional stain remover for carpets. Just make sure you test the product out before you use it.

Or you could use ammonia, but this should only be considered as a last resort.

To try this out just mix a tablespoon of ammonia with two cups of warm water, dip a clean cloth into the water, wring it out and start dabbing the orange juice stain with the solution.

When you’ve applied the ammonia to the carpet, you’ll need to use a new, damp cloth to blot the chemical off the carpet. The carpet will then need to be blotted dry with a clean towel.

Given the fact that ammonia is a strong chemical, you need to do a patch test before you clean your carpet with it as it could discolour your carpet.
