What Are Laundry Beads/Scent Boosters?

Laundry beads or scent boosters are a relatively new item which has been brought to the market promising to make your clothes smell better.

There are many different scents to choose from. When paired with other detergents, the scent is amplified. They are great for leaving clothes feeling and smelling fresh.

Laundry beads have a much stronger smell than most laundry detergents.

Laundry beads are simply placed inside the washing machine with your washing and they will then dissolve as your clothes are washed in the washing cycle. The outcome is clothes that smell amazingly fresh.

Many people choose to use laundry beads if they find that normal washing detergent is not enough to leave their clothes smelling fresh and clean.

Whilst normal washing machine detergent does clean your clothes, it won’t always leave a strongly scented smell behind which lasts any longer than a day or two.

Do Laundry Scent Beads Work?

Laundry beads do work in the sense that they will help your clothes smell better. However, they do little to nothing in terms of cleaning your clothes or softening them.

Laundry beads are sometimes confused with fabric softeners, but they aren’t the same thing. Laundry beads will not make your clothes softer; they will simply just make them smell better. Some people will say they are just a gimmick.

Do You Use Laundry Beads with Detergent?

Yes, laundry beads must be used with detergent as they don’t actually clean clothes themselves.

Laundry beads should not be used as a laundry detergent replacement. Think of them as more of an add-on which boosts the smell of your clothes and helps them smell better for longer.

What Are Laundry Scent Beads Made Of?

They’re primarily made of materials that dissolve swiftly and adhere to or incorporates into the clothes it comes into contact with.

The main ingredients are perfumes. Laundry beads often contain citronellol, which is found in rose oil, and limonene, which is found in the peels of citrus fruits. These chemicals help give laundry beads their fruity scent.

Where Do You Put Beads in the Washing Machine?

Laundry beads are placed in the drum of your washing machine before you place your washing in on top of them.

They will then dissolve into your clothes once the washing machine beings its washing cycle. The end result will leave your clothes smelling fresh and clean for longer.

Do Laundry Beads Clog the Washer?

Some users have complained of laundry beads clogging their washing machine, resulting in clothes not getting washed properly and actually making them smell worse.

This can also damage your washing machine. A clogged drain could result in a burst pipe in your washing machine which may cause further damage to your home.

However, if you use them in moderation, laundry beads are unlikely to clog your washer.

Can Scent Beads Go in the Dryer?

Laundry beads should only be used in the washing machine. Make sure you follow the instructions on the packet carefully to avoid damaging your clothes or your appliances.

Will I Still Need to Use Detergent?

Yes, you will still need to use detergent when using laundry beads as laundry beads do not contain any chemicals that are capable of washing your clothes or removing stains. You will therefore be required to add laundry detergent as well as the laundry beads/scent boosters.
